Elon Musk Restores Old School Preview Links to X, Available for All Users
Elon Musk is making more changes to the X this week, and some of them are basically going back to the old model that didn’t need any changes in the first place. If you take a closer look at the social media app on Wednesday morning, you’ll notice that the story headlines are displayed in a preview format, as they have been for many years.
However, we noticed that X in the web client still shows story links embedded in the clip. We’re not sure if Musk and Co. keep it that way, or could we expect another update to change the format for online users as well. In any case, using the old header format in the mobile app is definitely a step in the right direction and shows that the platform really didn’t need to change things for that.
Musk had claimed that removing the links from the previews would “significantly improve the aesthetics” on the platform. People who were using Twitter (now X) a certain way for many years and then suddenly changing the interface confused many of them who were not excited about the new interface changes.
To be fair, Musk confirmed that the X is going back to the old header style, which is now reflected on the front end for all users. The changes appear to be phased in, as X’s Android app displays the old link format, while links on the web and iOS still appear visually embedded.
X is having a hard time, thanks to Musk’s public bashing of companies and advertisers. His move has not gone down well with brands like Apple, which have decided to stop investing in the platform, which could have serious consequences for Musk and Co., as the company he bought 12 months ago is already struggling with investor concerns and regular devaluations, suggesting the $44 billion deal will not may have been a good business decision from Musk when he decided to buy the platform and change its branding, among other things.
